Topack takes great care over the environment, as proven by its commitment to a dedicated recycling department. In general, the advantage of recycling is twofold: on the one hand it reduces the final volume of waste, and on the other, recovering waste and reusing it saves raw materials and energy, and can even reduce raw material costs. Plastic recycling thus allows, among other things: Savings of non-renewable raw materials, such as oil; Reduced energy consumption in the manufacture of plastic materials; Transformation of short-life products (packaging) into long-life products
In February 2018 we started a project to collect rigid plastics from municipal dumps (buying from waste pickers) and in neighbourhoods (buying from micro collection businesses), for subsequent sorting, washing, grinding and incorporation into the production process.
In July 2018 we started collecting PET (water bottles), aluminium (drink cans), cardboard and film, which will be compacted into bales and sent for processing in South Africa.
The whole recycling process creates a value chain that allows more disadvantaged populations to generate a continuous income through the collection and sale of the aforementioned waste.
